Systeme.io vs HighLevel for sales funnels
One is a free-to-start funnel and email tool for creators. The other is an agency CRM with funnels built in. Here is how to tell which one you need.
This page contains paid links to Systeme.io and HighLevel. We may earn a commission if you sign up through them. Disclosure.
Systeme.io and HighLevel (often called GoHighLevel) both let you build sales funnels, send email and take payments. That is where the similarity ends. Systeme.io is built for creators and small online businesses who want funnels, email and courses in one place, starting free. HighLevel is built for agencies and local businesses that need a full CRM with texting, calling, calendars and client sub-accounts.
Short answer: if you sell your own digital products, courses or coaching and want to start without paying, choose Systeme.io. If you run an agency, serve local businesses, or need two-way texting and calling with every lead, choose HighLevel. The rest of this page shows why, using prices from each vendor's own site (checked October 28, 2026).

What each one is built for
Systeme.io describes itself as an all-in-one platform for online businesses: funnels, email marketing, courses, a website and blog, an affiliate program manager, a booking calendar, communities and more, with the same feature set on every plan and only the limits changing (features).
HighLevel lists a website and funnel builder as one core feature among many: CRM and pipelines, email and SMS marketing, inbound and outbound calling, unified conversations, booking calendars, workflow automation, reputation management, payments and invoicing, courses and communities, all with unlimited contacts and users (pricing). It is priced and designed for agencies that manage many client businesses.
In practice: Systeme.io is a funnel tool with a contact list. HighLevel is a CRM with a funnel builder.
Funnel building
Both have drag-and-drop builders and templates. Systeme.io's features page lists A/B split testing, one-click upsells, order bumps and countdown timers, and templates for opt-in, sales, webinar and product launch funnels. Those are the pieces most creator funnels need, and they are on the free plan, limited by funnel count (3 on Free, 10 on Startup, 50 on Webinar, unlimited on Unlimited).
HighLevel's builder covers websites and funnels for client businesses, usually feeding leads into its pipelines and automations. If you want a quick lead magnet page, either works. If the funnel is the business, Systeme.io's limits-based pricing is easier to start with; see our lead magnet funnel template for a first build.
Contacts, email and texting costs
This is where the two differ most.
| Cost | Systeme.io | HighLevel |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | 2,000 Free; 5,000 Startup; 10,000 Webinar; unlimited on Unlimited | Unlimited on every plan |
| Email sends | Unlimited on every plan | $0.675 per 1,000 emails, usage-billed |
| Texting | Through your own Twilio account; you pay Twilio directly | Built-in phone system: $0.00747 per US SMS segment, in or out, plus carrier fees |
| Phone numbers | Through Twilio | $1.15/month local, $2.15/month toll-free |

The practical effect: a creator with a 4,000-person email list pays $17 a month on Systeme.io with no per-email charge. On HighLevel the same list costs at least the $97 plan plus email usage. But a local business that needs to text every new lead back within a minute gets that natively on HighLevel, while on Systeme.io texting is an add-on step through a separate Twilio account. Systeme.io itself says a dedicated SMS tool may suit you better if you need two-way texting conversations.
Checkout and payments
Systeme.io lists 0% transaction fees on every plan, with Stripe, PayPal and other processors. Free accounts have a $10,000 lifetime sales limit; at that point payment pages stop taking new sales until you upgrade, per its help center.
HighLevel includes payments and invoicing as a core feature and works with Stripe, PayPal, NMI, Authorize.net, Square and others. Either way, your payment processor charges its own fees; Stripe's standard rate is 2.9% plus 30 cents per successful domestic card charge (Stripe pricing).
Automation and follow-up
Both platforms automate follow-up with a trigger, a condition and an action, but the depth differs by plan and by price.
On Systeme.io, automations work across funnels, email, courses and sales: a purchase can tag a contact, start an email sequence and enroll them in a course without any outside tool (features). The catch on the Free plan is the count: the plan FAQ lists 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign, so free users need to keep follow-up simple. Paid plans raise the limits, and Unlimited removes the cap on automation rules.
On HighLevel, workflow automation is a core feature on every plan and is designed around a sales conversation: a new lead can get a text, an email and a call task for the owner in the same workflow, and a missed call can trigger an automatic text back. Most workflow steps are included, but HighLevel bills some premium triggers and actions at $0.01 per execution, per its pricing guide. If you are new to the building blocks, our email automation basics guide explains tags, rules and sequences.
Setup time and learning curve
Systeme.io is the quicker start for a solo creator. You can sign up without a card, pick a funnel template, write a short email sequence and publish on a free subdomain in an afternoon. There is less to configure because there is less to the product.
HighLevel asks more of you up front. Phone numbers, texting registration, calendars, pipelines and sub-accounts all need setting up before the system pays off, and the 14-day trial goes quickly if you are learning as you build. Agencies accept that because they build a setup once and reuse it for many clients. A solo creator who only needs a funnel and an email list may never use most of what they are paying for.
Courses, memberships and communities
Both list courses and communities. Systeme.io's course builder supports video lessons, downloads, drip schedules and module locking, with course counts by plan (1, 5, 20, unlimited). If selling a course is your main goal, see our course sales funnel guide, which uses Systeme.io's free plan as the starting point.
Agencies and client accounts
Both offer sub-accounts, but they mean different things:
- Systeme.io: every plan, including Free, allows unlimited sub-accounts, and each sub-account gets the same limits as your main plan at no extra cost (pricing). Handy if you build funnels for a few clients.
- HighLevel: Starter includes 3 sub-accounts; Unlimited and Agency Pro include unlimited sub-accounts. Unlimited lets you rebill phone and email at cost; Agency Pro adds SaaS Mode and rebilling with your own markup.
If you want to sell software to clients under your own brand, HighLevel is the stronger fit. Our sister site ResellerCRM covers that model in depth.
Cost over the first year
Simple list-price arithmetic, before taxes, processor fees and usage:
- Systeme.io: $0 on Free. On Startup, $17 x 12 = $204 a year (less with annual billing).
- HighLevel: Starter at $97 x 12 = $1,164 a year, or $970 billed yearly, plus email and texting usage.
The gap is large if all you need is funnels and email. It narrows, or flips, if you would otherwise pay separately for a CRM, a texting tool, a scheduling tool and a reputation tool.
Which should you choose?
Choose Systeme.io if:
- You sell digital products, courses, coaching or affiliate offers online.
- You want to start free and only pay when your list or funnel count grows.
- Unlimited email sends matter more to you than texting.
Choose HighLevel if:
- You run an agency or serve local businesses that live on phone calls and texts.
- You need pipelines, calendars, reviews and two-way conversations in one place.
- You want client sub-accounts you can rebill, or to resell the platform under your brand.
If HighLevel fits, you can start a HighLevel free trial. The trial is 14 days, and billing starts automatically when it ends unless you cancel.

Can you use both?
Some businesses do: Systeme.io for courses and email to a large creator audience, HighLevel for sales calls and client follow-up. It works, but you pay for two tools and keep two contact lists in sync. Most people are better off picking the one that matches their main way of selling and building around it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Systeme.io cheaper than HighLevel?
At list price, yes. Systeme.io has a free plan and paid plans from $17 a month, while HighLevel starts at $97 a month plus usage for email and texting. Compare them on what you would otherwise pay for separate tools, not on plan price alone.
Does Systeme.io have texting like HighLevel?
Systeme.io can send SMS from its automation workflows through your own Twilio account, which you pay directly. HighLevel has a built-in phone system with two-way texting and calling, billed per message and per minute.
Is GoHighLevel the same as HighLevel?
Yes. GoHighLevel is the name many people use for HighLevel, whose website is gohighlevel.com.
Which is better for agencies?
HighLevel, if you need client CRMs, texting, calendars and rebilling. Systeme.io's unlimited sub-accounts suit freelancers who build funnels and email for a handful of clients.
Can I move from Systeme.io to HighLevel later?
Yes, but funnels, emails and automations have to be rebuilt. Export your contacts first and plan the move for a quiet week.
